“Keeping Your Space Healthy”
Answer: Asbestos refers to six kinds of naturally occurring minerals, once used widely in many products because of the specific properties that make it versatile, convenient, and profitable. However, throughout the 20th century, it was discovered that asbestos was a carcinogen responsible for the sickness and death of thousands of people exposed to it. It has been banned since 1980 but remains in older products and homes.
Answer: Asbestos is not harmful when it is in a solid, rigid state. It becomes dangerous when it is disturbed and begins to break down. When asbestos fibres separate from the whole and become airborne, they are life-threatening. This can be through abrasion, natural deterioration, or deliberate departicluation. Oftentimes an inexperienced homeowner could, during renovations or a simple do-it-yourself project, encounter an asbestos-bearing building component without knowing it. Loose-fill loft insulation, roofing shingles and acoustic tiles can all contain asbestos, yet in none of these examples would its presence be obvious to the untrained eyes.
Answer: The best thing to do if you are unsure is call MoldPro so we can carefully and safely determine if there is the presence of asbestos, and safely and expertly remove it.
Answer: Stachybotrys, better known as BLACK MOLD, is a greenish-black, slimy mold found only on cellulose products (such as wood or paper) that have remained wet for several days or more. It does not grow on concrete, linoleum, or tile. According to Health Canada, all molds should be treated the same with respect to potential health risks and removal. Exposure to any mold could cause effects under the right conditions and should be carefully removed.
Answer: Mold spores are everywhere outdoors and are being swept by winds into locations where there may not be any mold growth. These spores can be brought into the home through the air and by foot traffic. If an outdoor test is not performed, the home may be incorrectly assessed as having a mold problem. The outdoor test provides a baseline measurement for mold that is normal for your area.
Answer: MoldPro recommends testing your space for mold. This is to determine what levels of mold are in the air inside of your home, and to identify the type of mold you have present.
Answer: Once the sample is received by the lab, it will be analyzed within 2 business days.
Answer: In addition to the analysis report describing the levels of actively growing mold in the home, you will receive a report that lists the predicted sources of air contaminants and suggestions for removal from the home. If extremely high levels of air contaminants are found, we will address all of your concerns, and help you determine the next steps in improving your indoor air quality.
Answer: What you Do not know about the air in your home could hurt you and your family. Many of the things we are exposed to everyday in our homes, including products and materials we use on a routine basis, are considered harmful chemicals. In addition, many areas of the home have problems with humidity, and mold is often found actively growing in homes, silently causing health concerns. There are serious health risks with repeated and prolonged exposure to mold. These risks are elevated for immune compromised individuals already suffering with chronic illness such as respiratory illnesses such as asthma, allergies, chronic bronchitis, and emphysema. Some molds are considered hazardous air pollutants and have been linked to cancer.
Our homes are supposed to be our safe haven, not places where we are put at risk. With such a comprehensive, inexpensive test available, why would not you want to give yourself peace of mind knowing that you’re doing everything you can to protect the well-being of the ones you love most!
